The Best Blog E-v-e-r!

Let's start my first blog off with a bit of optimism as seen through my son's eyes..."This is the best ____ ever!" (Note: fill in the blank--for the selfish purposes of this blog, I will choose "blog"). Invariably, my 6 1/2 year old son will utter these words in pretty much any (and all) situations. Like clockwork, after eating a typical Tuesday dinner (something like spaghetti and meatballs--a quick and easy meal to make and eat--especially since we need to make it to the T-Ball game at 6:15 pm that night), Liam would finish off his milk, wipe away the milk mustache hopefully with his napkin (sometimes it might be his sleeve), smile and brightly say "That was the best spaghetti ever!"

Of course, I eat it up. So, my response would go something like, "Thanks sweetheart...I'm glad you liked it."

He would then say, "I didn't like it, I loved it!"

Beaming, I say, "Sonny boy, you are so sweet, love ya!"

He then asks to be excused from the table (we make the kids do this at our house) and runs over to my side of the table, gives me a big squeeze and says, "You're the best mom ever!"

At this point, as I'm melting into a big puddle of maternal pride and love, I tell him "You're the best son ever!" Liam would then look over at his bemused father and shout, "And you're the best dad ever!" "And you're the best sister ever!" Liam says to his 4 year old sister, Kimmie.

Then, the whole family erupts into a complete over-the-top compliment-giving love fest. Outsiders viewing this occasion may find it quite syrupy and saccharine. I say, add some whip cream on top! Sprinkle some crushed Reese's peanut butter cups for good measure. Ok, add a drizzle of caramel too.

Sweet moments like these won't last forever.

So for now, every time Liam proclaims "That was the best ___ ever," I will take his words to heart and live in that "best" moment for as long as I can.

Here's to the Best Blog E-v-e-r! And tomorrow's, the next day's after that, and so on...
